JOB OVERVIEW

Smart State Rentals is a family-owned vehicle rental business based in Mackay. We are seeking a Financial Manager to oversee all financial administration, accounting, reporting and commercial support functions of the business.

Reporting directly to the owners, this is a standalone finance role. We are looking for a highly organised, efficient and detail-oriented professional who enjoys working autonomously, managing competing priorities and maintaining accurate financial records.

The role combines hands-on bookkeeping with management reporting, financial analysis and business support. You will provide timely and accurate financial information, maintain strong financial controls and contribute ideas to improve profitability, cash flow and operational performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Operations
• Manage accounts payable and receivable.
• Issue invoices, monitor collections and follow up overdue accounts.
• Process supplier invoices, payment runs, ABA files and banking transactions.

Reconciliations & Financial Integrity
• Complete bank, credit card and merchant reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate financial records and promptly resolve discrepancies.

Management Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reports.
• Analyse performance, identify trends and provide recommendations to owners.
• Monitor key business metrics including utilisation, revenue and profitability.

Cash Flow & Budgeting
• Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts.
• Assist with budgeting and monitor performance against budget.

Fleet Asset Accounting
• Maintain the vehicle asset register, including acquisitions, disposals and depreciation.
• Monitor fleet profitability and operating costs.

Compliance & Process Improvement
• Support BAS, IAS, GST and EOFY requirements.
• Liaise with accountants, banks and government agencies.
• Improve financial processes, reporting and internal controls.

Administration & Team Support
• Provide administrative support as required.
• Assist management and operational staff.
• Contribute positively to a small business team environment.

KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline preferred.
• CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) highly regarded.
• 3–5 years' experience in accounting, management accounting or senior bookkeeping roles.
• Strong Xero, Excel and financial reporting skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Small business experience highly regarded.
